About the role
As an Electrical Engineer at ELECSYS, you will support the design of electrical systems for mixed-use commercial, transportation, and industrial facilities, with an emphasis on power distribution, lighting, communications, and fire detection. You’ll contribute to technical design, coordination, and construction-phase support on projects that demand accuracy, reliability, and strong teamwork.

About the role
As an Inspector at ELECSYS, you will support the delivery of complex infrastructure and building projects by verifying that construction work aligns with contract documents, applicable codes, and client requirements. You’ll work alongside engineers, contractors, and client representatives across transit and rail facilities, tunnels and bridges, water and wastewater treatment plants, and commercial and institutional buildings. Day to day, you’ll perform field observations, document progress, track quality and safety issues, and help keep projects moving from installation through testing and closeout.
Responsibilities
- Perform field inspections/observations to confirm installations match approved drawings, specifications, codes, and standards.
- Document daily activities, progress, and site conditions through clear field reports, photos, and issue logs.
- Verify materials and equipment deliveries against submittals and approved product data.
- Observe installation quality for MEP/FP and/or electrical systems (based on assignment), including equipment placement, conduit/piping routing, supports, clearances, labeling, and housekeeping.
- Track nonconforming work and deficiencies; support punch lists and verify corrective actions are completed.
- Coordinate with contractors, client staff, and the design team to clarify scope, answer field questions, and escalate issues as needed.
- Review and help process RFIs, field sketches, and change documentation (as assigned).
- Support testing, start-up, and commissioning activities by witnessing tests, documenting results, and confirming closeout deliverables.
- Promote jobsite safety awareness and communicate observed safety concerns through the appropriate channels.
- Maintain organized project records for closeout, including inspection logs, test reports, and as-built documentation support.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field is a plus.
- 3+ years of inspection experience on infrastructure or building projects (transit/rail, water/wastewater, tunnels, bridges, or similar is a plus).
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, submittals, and construction schedules.
- Familiarity with relevant codes/standards (e.g., NYC Building Code, NFPA, NEC, or discipline-specific standards based on assignment).
- Strong written communication skills with attention to detail—able to produce clear, professional daily reports.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; comfort using tablets/field apps for reporting and photo documentation is a plus.
- OSHA 10 required; OSHA 30 preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites throughout the NYC metro area and surrounding region.

- Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, communications, and instrumentation & controls (I&C) teams to develop clear, accurate drawing packages.
- Produce engineering drawings including one-line diagrams, risers, equipment layouts, conduit/piping plans, schematics, schedules, P&IDs, and related details.
- Implement project-specific CAD standards and program requirements to ensure consistency and quality.
- Coordinate with external parties (clients, vendors, consultants) on CAD-related items and resolve issues efficiently.

Qualifications
