Richard is a senior systems engineer with nearly 40 years of experience at the intersection of electrical and software engineering for transit and traffic control systems. His work has focused on control centers and wayside systems for light rail, commuter rail, bus rapid transit, and highway tunnels, with a particular emphasis on control-room layout, operator consoles, overview display systems, human machine interfaces, and ergonomics. He has deep experience with centralized traffic control, SCADA, signal systems, relational database management systems, and communications subsystems, including backbone networks, telephone and radio, public address and variable message signs, CCTV, fire and life safety systems, and security and access control.

Over the course of his career, Richard has provided systems engineering, design, and construction support for major transit agencies, helping them plan, specify, and implement upgrades to control centers and field systems. He has led and contributed to multidisciplinary teams responsible for integrating train control, station communications, tunnel ventilation, traction power, and safety-critical systems into cohesive, operator-friendly control environments.

Richard holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University at Buffalo. His training includes coursework in Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI), including Introduction to CMMI and the Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement (SCAMPI), reflecting his interest in structured, repeatable processes for complex systems delivery.
