East Side Access is one of the most ambitious rail infrastructure programs in the United States, extending Long Island Rail Road service directly to Manhattan’s East Side and creating a new deep-cavern terminal beneath Grand Central Terminal. The program adds new tunnels, concourses, and platforms, significantly increasing railroad capacity and improving regional mobility for Long Island and New York City commuters.

As part of a multi-firm team for MTA C&D, ELECSYS provided electrical, communications, and life-safety systems engineering across multiple contracts, facilities, and phases. Our work has included power distribution and lighting, fire alarm and public address, closed-circuit television (CCTV) and security systems, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), and systems-integration support tying station, tunnel, and yard facilities into a cohesive network. ELECSYS helped coordinate designs with partner firms, utilities, and contractors; supported construction sequencing in constrained underground environments; and contributed to testing and commissioning activities to bring the new terminal safely into service.

The completed Grand Central Madison terminal and associated infrastructure expand LIRR capacity, shorten commutes, and create new travel options that better connect people to jobs, culture, and services in East Midtown. For ELECSYS, this project illustrates our ability to collaborate on large, multi-contract programs and deliver dependable, field-ready systems that will serve riders and operators for decades to come.
