The Hudson Tunnel Project is a once-in-a-generation investment in the Northeast Corridor, creating a new rail tunnel under the Hudson River and rehabilitating the century-old North River Tunnel between New Jersey and Penn Station in Manhattan. As part of the Project Delivery Partner team, ELECSYS supports the electrical and systems elements that help this complex civil program operate safely, reliably, and efficiently for the long term.

Working with the Gateway Development Commission, Amtrak, NJ TRANSIT, and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), ELECSYS reviews, coordinates, and validates designs developed by tunnel, rail systems, and station design–build teams. Our role includes traction power distribution; tunnel, shaft, and facility electrical systems; lighting; emergency and egress power; and the communications and control systems that connect new infrastructure to existing rail networks on both sides of the Hudson.

ELECSYS supports interdisciplinary design review and systems integration to confirm that power, communications, fire and life-safety, ventilation, and control packages align with performance requirements and can be operated and maintained over the tunnel’s service life. We also contribute to constructability reviews and phasing strategies that balance fast-track delivery with the need to keep Northeast Corridor service running during construction and rehabilitation.

In the field, ELECSYS provides technical advisory services, site walks, and quality assurance support as packages advance toward procurement and construction—helping validate existing conditions, manage interface risks between contracts, and define testing, commissioning, and handover requirements so the new and rehabilitated tunnels perform as one integrated system.
