Borough Hall Station Complex State-of-Good-Repair and ADA Accessibility Upgrades
Fire Alarm and Power Upgrades for an Accessible Downtown Brooklyn Hub
Client:
Metropolitan Transportation Authority Construction & Development
Location:
Brooklyn, NY
Completion Date:
2026
The Borough Hall Station Complex in Downtown Brooklyn is one of the busiest and most historic hubs in the New York City Transit network, serving the 2, 3, 4, 5, and R lines. As part of a broader program to improve accessibility and state of good repair across the system, ELECSYS is providing design-build fire alarm and electrical engineering services to support new elevators, circulation improvements, and life-safety upgrades at the complex.
Working with the design-build team, ELECSYS is responsible for replacing and reconfiguring fire alarm systems, power distribution, and related infrastructure to accommodate new elevator cores, reconfigured egress paths, and upgraded public spaces. The team is developing new fire alarm risers and devices, revising sequences of operation, and coordinating closely with civil, structural, architectural, and mechanical disciplines to maintain code compliance while minimizing impacts on riders and operations.
Because the station must remain in service throughout construction, staging and phasing are critical. ELECSYS is helping the project team sequence cutovers, coordinate outages, and integrate new equipment into existing systems, all while meeting MTA standards and New York City Fire Code requirements. When complete, the project will deliver accessible, safer, and more reliable station facilities for riders, demonstrating how thoughtful systems upgrades can extend the life and usefulness of legacy infrastructure.
