Chappaqua Crossing Complex Air Handling Unit Upgrades

Upgrading campus air systems for comfort and decarbonization

2024

Chappaqua Crossing is a mixed-use corporate and retail campus in Westchester County undergoing a multi-year modernization program to improve comfort, reliability, and energy performance. As part of this effort, the owner implemented upgrades to multiple rooftop and indoor air handling units serving common areas and tenant spaces across the property.

ELECSYS provided mechanical, electrical, and commissioning services for the air handling unit upgrade program as part of a design–build team. The project focused on replacing aging equipment with high-efficiency units, improving ventilation and filtration, and integrating the new systems with the existing building automation system—while keeping the campus operational throughout phased construction.

Our team developed design drawings and specifications for the new air handling units and associated electrical infrastructure, including power distribution, variable-frequency drives, and motor starters. ELECSYS also supported controls integration for demand-based ventilation and optimized scheduling to enhance performance and occupant comfort. Coordination with rooftop and interior space constraints was central to the design, along with careful planning to minimize disruption for tenants and visitors.

During procurement and construction, ELECSYS reviewed submittals, responded to RFIs, and performed field observations to help verify installations matched design intent. Final checkouts and as-built documentation supported turnover to facility staff and helped the owner realize targeted operational improvements.

Together with broader campus central plant initiatives, these AHU upgrades support the owner’s decarbonization and electrification strategy—reducing energy use and operating costs while delivering healthier, more comfortable indoor environments across approximately 200,000 sf of office and retail space.
